Overcoming Insomnia

Having insomnia is a very common thing among teenagers and adults nowadays. In our fast paced world, our lives seems to be whirling out of control due to the competing demands of work and studies, family issues, busy traffic, loneliness and many more. Having to juggle our daily tasks might seem more than we can handle, and therefore it would lead to chronic stress. And one of the effects of chronic stress happened to be insomnia.

Many people do not understand how hard and frustrating it can get when it comes to dealing with insomnia, let alone understanding the difficulty of overcoming it. Although it might be hard to be completely cured from it, there are a few things which we can do to reduce the frustration of sleepless nights. For starters, having a diary and writing all our thoughts and worries in it every night will help tremendously in clearing our minds before bedtime. Most of the time we tend to think or worry too much before falling asleep. And therefore we should practice writing everything down in a diary and leave it there to be dealt the next morning.

Some people may think that drinking alcohol before bedtime helps but it is actually harmful to our health on the long run. Research has shown that alcohol in fact upsets sleep, which would prevent us from having a good nights rest plus it may even worsen or induce sleep apnea. Therefore drinking a warm cup of milk before bedtime is a better solution as it helps to soothe and relax our nervous system.

Eating right and drinking plenty of water also plays an important part, and of course exercising regularly does help tremendously as well.
