As you advance in age, you gain not only the wisdom of age but lose the fullness of your hair. By this we mean the thinning of hair over a period of time. But other factors like heredity, modern hair styling treatments like perming, bleaching, coloring etc. have also led to thin hair. An unbalanced diet or excessive stress could also lead to untoward results on your hair’s thickness.
The following tips give you some advice on how to control hair thinning problems.
Dye your hair. Coloring your hair gives it the illusion of thickness, as the process would rough up your hair as a result. As your hair strands would slide against each other like so and lie flat afterwards, this makes your hair appear deceptively full. Lighter hair coloring can provide a better illusion by hiding the scalp.
Choose a curly look. You might want your hair nice and wavy to make your hair appear thicker, since curling your hair changes how the surface appears.
Blow-drying. Blow drying the hair will make the hair two to three times thicker without harming the scalp. The blow-drying process makes your hair look puffier. To avoid making your hair feel excessively dry, it is recommended that the hair dryer be used about two to three times farther than normal. And have some conditioner ready after shampooing your hair to further avoid dryness after blow-drying.
Not just any shampoo – protein shampoo. When you wash your hair daily, the hair oils are removed, it gives the hair more body so that it looks thicker than the normal. You can add an extra dimension to your hair if you use shampoos with thickeners, which are essentially hydrolyzed animal proteins. They coat the hair so that each shaft appears two to three times fuller than usual. This is a great way to give your hair that soft, bouncy appearance you desire.
Try a kitchen conditioner. Mix a tablespoon of white vinegar with a pint of water and massage onto the hair after shampooing. The rationale behind this is changing the balance of your hair to an acidic one, which makes thinning hair look fuller without having to resort to chemicals.
Egg crushing. Crush an egg on your hair before you shampoo it. Give five minutes to massage it onto your hair, then rinse it out. Eggs work in lieu of protein shampoos, because in their own natural way, they are a type of animal protein.
Try minimizing use of store-bought conditioners. Usually, conditioners are used to give the volume to the hair. However, it is common for people to use more than recommended, which makes hair look ironically lifeless. Should you use commercial conditioners, use no more than one teaspoon.
Hair mousse. The last tip would be to use mousse as a hair styling agent to add more fullness. This particular styling agent contains resins which coat the hair like many of the above mentioned. Your hair would be lifted off its scalp, making it fuller and more bountiful looking.
