Choosing A Hair Loss Treatment

Many men experience the loss of hair sometimes at an early age. This is accepted by most men and society as normal. On the other hand, women who experience the loss of their hair deem it as a tragedy. Since women do much more with their hair than men it becomes a goal in their life to seek a hair loss treatment that can give them back their curly locks.

Experiencing the loss of your hair can be devastating. We all view hair as what makes us who we are and in many instances this is true. Those who see the beginning of the loss of hair also begin to develop low self-esteem. It is usually viewed as a direct reflection of what we are and when it begins to fall out, we lose a part of ourselves.

There is a variety of treatments that can help in preventing hair loss and in some cases even regrowth. DHT inhibitors and anti-androgens are primarily the same treatment with the latter being used at a different stage of the loss. Other treatments include growth stimulators, anti-inflammatories, super oxide dismutase and laser treatments.

Males produce the hormone DHT or dihydrotestosterone that is produced along with testosterone. Excessive DHT levels are a major contributor to male baldness. These inhibitors actually block its production allowing the hair to grow again. A prescription must be obtained for this type of product from your dermatologist or physician.

Growth stimulators do not actually stop hair loss but they do stimulate the scalp. These are usually topical solutions that are intended to be placed directly on the scalp and massaged in to help stimulate new growth. Because they do not slow hair loss you will still notice the hair thinning. As the scalp is stimulated in thin areas you may see new hair sprouting.

Hormones are not the only reason men and women begin to lose their hair. It could be a result of scalp inflammation which usually includes itching, flaking and redness. This can cause the hair follicle to weaken and fall out. Anti-inflammatories can help alleviate the symptoms and allow the follicle to grow stronger in the scalp. As it grows stronger, it is less apt to fall out due to combing or brushing.

When large amounts of DHT are found in the body, they tend to attack the hair like it is bacteria that the body is attempting to get rid of. Super oxide dismutase or SOD defends the hair and its follicle from being attacked by these hormones. It actually helps decrease the super oxide so the hair can remain intact in the scalp.

If you notice that your hair is beginning to thin, you should talk to your dermatologist to get information on a hair loss treatment. Your scalp could just simply have low blood circulation which is causing it to slow the growth. Only your dermatologist will know for sure.

Provillus hair loss treatment for men contains 5% minoxidil solution. This is a different formulation than Provillus for women, which contains 2% minoxidil and is therefore safer for pregant and lactating women to use.
